How we read it
Known to clog pores. If you break out easily, this is the one to skip.
Is Mango Butter comedogenic?
Yes. Mango Butter is a known pore-clogging ingredient, and we read it as highly comedogenic. If you're acne-prone, it's worth avoiding, especially when it sits near the top of an ingredient list.
Why we read it this way
Mango butter is a firm, mild-scented fat taken from the kernel inside the mango stone, used to give body to creams, balms and hair products. We read it as highly comedogenic, like the other rich butters we flag.
The nuance
Mango butter is often offered as the lighter alternative to cocoa butter or shea, and some lists leave it off. We flag all three. It is the seed fat that carries the flag, and mango fruit extract is a different ingredient altogether.
Where it shows up
Mango butter goes into body butters, lip balms, lotion bars, hair masks and leave-in conditioners, and into face creams marketed as natural.

One ingredient rarely tells the whole story. The acne ingredient checker reads everything in a product at once, the pore-clogging ingredients list has the rest of what we flag, and there is more on what comedogenic means. Also in the guides: What causes acne.
