How we read it
Not a pore-clogger. Considered safe for acne-prone skin.
Is Panthenol comedogenic?
No. Panthenol isn't considered pore-clogging, and we read it as safe to use on acne-prone skin. That doesn't make it right for everyone, but congestion isn't the thing to watch for with it.
Why we read it this way
Panthenol is provitamin B5, a water-soluble ingredient that skin converts to pantothenic acid. In a product it works as a humectant and a soothing agent, helping skin hold water and feel calmer. We read it as no concern for pores.
The nuance
It is often the selling point of thick repair balms and ointments, and those bases can include lanolin or beeswax, both of which we flag. Labels may also list it as Dexpanthenol or D-Panthenol, two names for one form of the same ingredient.
Where it shows up
Barrier creams, repair balms, after-sun lotions and soothing serums. It is just as common in shampoos, conditioners and styling products, where it adds softness and shine.
Names we read the same way
