How we read it
Not a pore-clogger. Considered safe for acne-prone skin.
Is Rice Extract comedogenic?
No. Rice Extract isn't considered pore-clogging, and we read it as safe to use on acne-prone skin. That doesn't make it right for everyone, but congestion isn't the thing to watch for with it.
Why we read it this way
Rice extract is a light extract of the rice grain or its bran, usually carried in water, used to soften skin and give a formula a smooth, conditioning feel. Rice water, its everyday relative, has a long history in skincare. We read it as not pore-clogging.
The nuance
Rice reaches a label in several forms, including the extract, rice bran oil, rice starch and fermented rice filtrates. Each is its own ingredient, and our call on the extract says nothing about the others.
Where it shows up
Its usual homes are milky toners, essences, cleansing powders and foams, sheet masks, and lightweight moisturizers aimed at a brighter, smoother look.
